What’s the difference between coaching and editing? A lot.

A coach, like a tutor, helps the writer improve, but doesn’t touch pen to paper or finger to keyboard. The coach suggests, encourages, and critiques but doesn’t do any of the writing for the coachee.

An editor does make changes to the writer’s work, going beyond encouraging and suggesting. The editor fixes grammar, rearranges sentences, adjusts formatting, and improves word choices.
